Abstract:
The axisymmetric turbulent far wake of a long slender cylinder is being studied. Classical analytical solutions describing the wake width and the velocity defect are presented. The governing equations have been solved with appropriate boundary conditions and a scaling analysis to obtain a similarity equation for the mean velocity distributions. Solutions of the velocity distributions are presented in terms of the hypergeometric function known as the Whittaker function. Validation of the analysis is done with available experimental data.
