This work presents the design and implementation of a smart and solar-powered solid waste segregation system using Arduino microcontroller interfaced with sensors, actuators. and Particle Photon cloud for wireless monitoring. The materials segregated are metal and non-metal that includes plastic, paper, and glass. Metal detection is done using inductive proximity sensor. Plastic is detected using infrared sensor based on shape and size. Laser and light dependent resistor (LDR) pair is used to detect paper. And lastly, glass bottles are detected using capacitive sensor. The prototype has an average percentage accuracy of 90.67% for sorting 30 assorted waste samples. |
